Cleaning and Prevention

The old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” applies especially to your dental health. With the proper routine care and a balanced diet, your natural dentition and supporting structures can be effectively preserved to offer many years of healthy chewing and beautiful smiles. Towards this end, we provide comprehensive general dentistry services including:
  • Intraoral Cameras – This pen-shaped imaging tool is revolutionizing the way dentistry is performed, allowing high-definition and full-color video images of each tooth to be taken with ease.
  • Panoramic X-Rays – Unlike traditional x-rays where the film must be placed inside the mouth, panoramic x-rays rotate around the head. This non-invasive imaging method is perfect for patients experiencing pain, and its ease of use allows it to be utilized on demand.
  • Digital X-Rays – Digital x-rays require up to 50% less radiation than traditional film x-rays to create a clear image of hidden dental abnormalities. These images are vital for informing any treatment regimens created by your dentist.
  • Dental Exams and Cleanings – The core of any general dentistry practice, regular dental exams and cleanings are vital for maintaining your oral health. Your dentist and hygienist can effectively screen your teeth and gums for any early warning signs of decay or disease, and render effective treatment and preventative cleaning on the spot.
  • Fluoride – Topical and systemic fluoride treatments have been used to great effect for over 50 years to strengthen the enamel of your teeth and prevent tooth decay. No matter what age you are, we have a treatment that will help you maintain your best smile!
  • Sealants – Over 75% of all dental decay begins in the deep grooves of your molars’ chewing surfaces. Plastic sealants take only minutes to be applied by Dr. Pfeifer and your hygienist, and will provide a lifetime of resistance of decay with proper care and good diet.
  • Home Care Education – Do you know the best way to floss, brush and rinse? At Pfeifer & Pfeifer, we’re dedicated to educating you on the facts so that you may take control of your dental health and ensure a lifetime of beautiful smiles.
  • Diagnodent® - This high-tech scanning device is the most effective method of detecting cavities (caries) on the market. It is non-invasive and extremely accurate, even able to detect cavities that lie beneath the surface.

Periodontal Disease

Did you know that four out of every five people have some level of periodontal disease? If you’ve noticed receding, bleeding or red and puffy gums, loose teeth, or persistent bad breath, you owe it to yourself to get checked out by a professional. In fact, there is a significant body of evidence to support a link between gum disease and heart disease and strokes. Pfeifer & Pfeifer is fully equipped to offer a comprehensive range of periodontal services, including:
  • Diagnosis – Similar to a routine dental exam, a periodontal exam will allow your dentist to render either a clean bill of health or a diagnosis of gingivitis, periodontitis, or advanced periodontitis
  • Treatment – Depending of the severity of your diagnosis, your dentist will perform treatments ranging from regular cleanings (two will generally suffice for gingivitis) to scaling and root planning (which removes tartar, plaque and other toxins from below the gum line and smooths the surface of the tooth). Antibiotic treatments can be used in conjunction with scaling and root planning to halt the progression of aggressive periodontal disease.
  • Maintenance – Once again, prevention is king. We offer a full range of services to maintain your gums’ best health, including pocket irrigation. Pocket irrigation blasts away plaque, food particles and other debris from beneath the tooth, while allowing for easy application of antimicrobial agents.
