Periodontal Disease

If you’ve noticed receding, bleeding or red and puffy gums, loose teeth, or persistent bad breath, you owe it to yourself to get checked out by a dental specialist. In fact, there is a significant body of evidence to support a link between gum disease and heart disease and strokes. Holly Family Dentistry, PLLC is a dentist office fully equipped to offer a comprehensive range of periodontal services, including:
- Diagnosis – Similar to a routine dental exam, a periodontal exam will allow your dentist to render either a clean bill of health or a diagnosis of gingivitis, periodontitis, or advanced periodontitis.
- Treatment – Depending of the severity of your diagnosis, your dentist will perform treatments ranging from regular cleanings (two will generally suffice for gingivitis) to scaling and root planning (which removes tartar, plaque and other toxins from below the gum line and smooths the surface of the tooth). Antibiotic treatments can be used in conjunction with scaling and root planning to halt the progression of aggressive periodontal disease.
- Maintenance – Once again, prevention is king. We offer a full range of services to maintain your gums’ best health, including pocket irrigation. Pocket irrigation blasts away plaque, food particles and other debris from beneath the tooth, while allowing for easy application of antimicrobial agents.
